JOB DESCRIPTION:
Performs complex network design and management work. Work involves the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of local area networks, wide area networks, Internet and intranet systems, network segments, and cloud-based network infrastructure. Works under general supervision from the current network manager, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Occasional overtime and non-standard hours are possible. Various other computer support duties may be assigned as they become necessary.
The Network Specialist job classification series is intended for employees who are responsible for the planning, design, development, maintenance, and operation of the agency's network systems. This includes designing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining the LAN, WAN, and cloud-based network, including routers, switches, gateways, and applications servers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (License, Education, Experience):
Experience, education, and/or training that provides a well-developed understanding of the practices, principles, and techniques of planning, designing, maintaining, operating, and securing network systems. The ability to maintain a professional demeanor and the capacity to communicate in a respectful manner. A work or school history that demonstrates a strong work ethic, dedication, and self-motivation. Education and experience may be substituted for one another.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge and/or experience with Microsoft Azure file share and backup services, Microsoft In-Tune, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Windows 10/11, Windows Server, Apache, IIS, VMWare/HyperV, and Linux. Thorough understanding of network cybersecurity concepts. Ability to write system and application documentation, policies, and procedures. Graduation from an accredited four-year college with major course work in a computer science related field, and/or certificate achievement from a well-known source of information technology training and testing.
