Provides legal and administrative support to the attorneys in the General Counsel Division. Responsibilities include: conducting or assisting with legal research and rulemaking; assisting in tracking and analyzing legislation and preparing legislative histories; proofreading and editing legal and administrative documents; checking citations, quotations, footnotes, and references for accuracy; assisting with open records requests by copying and scanning sometimes voluminous records; drafting correspondence; organizing, maintaining, and updating paper file systems, electronic records, and updating internal databases. Reports to the General Counsel and performs related duties as assigned. Works under general supervision, with occasional latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Overtime required during peak periods.

Minimum Qualifications (License, Education, Experience):

Graduation from high school or equivalent, although graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in English, business, law or a related field is preferred. Experience as a legal secretary or legal assistant, including assisting attorneys in maintaining records, organizing files, and proofreading documents. Strong grammar, communication, and computer skills; skill in understanding and processing information; and the ability to effectively and efficiently use file scanning, word processing, and spreadsheet applications. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.  Veterans, Reservist, or Guardsmen with an MOS or additional duties that fall in the fields of 27, 27D, 270A, LN, 2960, 44, 4400, 4421, 4422, 4430, 5J, 5J0X1, or other related fields pertaining to the minimum experience requirements may meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Preferred Qualifications 

Knowledge and experience with legal terminology, research methods and techniques, electronic research, especially Westlaw; Texas and/or federal legislative process; drafting, preparing, and interpreting legal documents and evaluating and relating findings to matters in question. Knowledge of State Securities Board rules, regulations, and agency policies and procedures. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines, work collaboratively with others, and work independently while maintaining a professional, courteous demeanor. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information. Willingness to seek out and obtain training.
